Happiness (engl.)

Learning to be happy: More happiness and contentment with coaching, workshops & more

Being happy – a state we all strive for. Yet only half of all Germans are happy. Why is that? Most seek their happiness in material objects. Happiness, however, has much more to do with our own contentment. That’s why our sense of happiness can also be influenced by our own inner attitude. So you can choose to be happy right now in this moment.

What does happiness mean?

A joyful state of mind and the highest goal of a human being – that is happiness. Once we are happy, we perceive the feeling primarily in our body. Sometimes it is a tingling in the stomach, other times we just want to laugh. In psychology, happiness is described as absolute harmony, whereas in medicine it is the pursuit of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is known as the happiness hormone.

How does happiness arise?

Happiness arises first and foremost in our brain. There, messenger substances such as dopamine, oxytocin and endorphins are released, which are responsible for the fact that we then physically perceive the feeling of happiness. Although material objects can make us happy for a short time, long friendships and appreciation at work, for example, lead to a state of happiness in the longer term.

“Most people are happy to the extent that they allow themselves to be happy.” (Abraham Lincoln)

Many little things can make you happy and you can take care of these little things every day. The next 6 tips will help you!

How to be happy: 6 tips for more happiness

Health: Your state of health has a big influence on your state of happiness. Try to eat healthy, exercise every day and give yourself enough relaxation periods to stay healthy in the long run.

Relationships: Spend more time with the people you love and who make you happy. Good relationships with your family, friends and partner make you happy.

Gratitude: How grateful are you for your life? Gratitude can be learned and will make you feel more positive about the world. Write down five things you are grateful for every day. These do not have to be big things. Often it is the little things that make us truly happy and content.

Prioritise your needs: Often we don’t listen to our wants and needs because we want to be liked by others and receive the greatest possible recognition. In the process, our own needs are often neglected. Being able to shape your life according to your own wishes and thus achieve personal independence – that also makes you happy. The most important relationship is with yourself. Therefore, ask yourself every day what you need to be happy today and try to realise this as best you can.

Avoid stress: Stress makes you unhappy: deadline pressure, constant availability and little sleep. Stress makes you ill in the long run. Think about how you can keep the stress level in your life as low as possible. You can find out more here. For example, allow yourself regular relaxation phases with yoga, meditation, walks and mindful downtime.

Make others happy: When was the last time you made someone happy? While you should look after your own wellbeing as best you can, making others happy makes you happy too.

Enjoy nature: Whether it’s the chirping of birds, the babbling of a stream or the smell of the forest, being in nature allows us to come back to the moment and gives us an incredible sense of freedom. People who are regularly in nature and get lots of daylight live happier lives. Are you one of them?
